King Archetype Workshop 2026

This workshop for men is all about embodying your power, authority and leadership…

The Inner King:
Accessing Your Archetypal Power

For Personal Success and Transformation

Following January’s hugely successful workshop, I’m pleased to say we will be running another “Finding the King Within” workshop from

Thursday September 3rd (4pm) to Sunday September 6th 2026 (2pm).

Please email Rod Boothroyd with any questions you may have or to book a place on rpboothroyd@gmail.com

At Little Earth Retreat Centre, near Glastonbury, Somerset.

Our intention on this retreat is to create a space where you will discover how to access and embody the power, authority and leadership of your Inner King archetype, the essence of masculinity and male power.

With highly experienced leaders and support staff, this workshop will provide you with the opportunity to:

  • Experience the energy of, and the strengths and weaknesses of, your Inner Warrior, Magician, Lover and King
  • Access and embody the innate masculine power and authority which resides within you
  • Fully experience the energy of your Inner King archetype and how to use it in your daily life
  • Discover how to embody the archetypal energy of your Inner King so you can live a more fulfilling life and move beyond the limitations of your past
  • See how your Inner King can be a truly Heart Centred Leader in your world today
  • Spend a weekend in the company of good men dedicated to self-improvement and personal success
  • Experience the energy of a circle of open hearted men, regardless of where you are on your personal journey
  • Celebrate your past success, enhance your clarity about your future direction, and give you a new sense of mission and purpose.

Read full details about this workshop below…

You may be experienced in men’s work, or you may be starting out on your journey to discover your true power. Either way you will be welcome here, in this circle of Kings, where all men are “first among equals”. All activities are optional, and you can choose to observe rather than take part if you wish.

During that time we will have check-ins to explore and integrate our feelings and experiences, both on the weekend and in our lives outside this workshop.

We will share in process work designed to allow you to access each of your archetypes: Lover, Magician, Warrior and King. We will have an opportunity for each man – if he wishes – to do a personal piece of deep shadow work exploring the issues that hold him back from embodying his King (or indeed any other issue that’s up for him).

We will share a sweat lodge (participation optional), and we will celebrate the power of the Inner King in ourselves and in all of us.

The cost of the workshop includes full board and accommodation in comfortable twin or triple en-suite rooms. Single accommodation is available for a limited number of men for an extra supplement, though this single accommodation does not have en-suite facilities.

Price
We ask you to place yourself on a sliding scale of payment at a point which suits your resources at this time: Lower end £400 Higher end £650

If you are ready to take the throne in your inner kingdom, potentially transforming the way you live your life, and emerging from the chrysalis of previous limitations into the glory of your fully embodied King, please email Rod Boothroyd with any questions you may have or to book a place on rpboothroyd@gmail.com

Testimonials from the weekend workshop Jan / Feb 2026

Rod’s King Workshop is both gentle and deeply transformative. It creates a safe space to explore our lived experience as men, while offering a practical framework for building and strengthening our inner kingdom – our relationship with ourselves and the way we lead our lives. I would 100% recommend this course to any man who is ready to reclaim his sovereignty and move forward with greater intention, confidence, and self-awareness. – Adam.

From the moment I started reading Rod’s book Finding the King Within I felt it resonate and connect with me. However reading it only took me so far, so as soon as I saw there was to be a “Finding The King Within” workshop I signed up. Prior to the retreat I read the info about the men who would be holding space and one clear message I got from this was that I was about to enter a safe space where I could allow whatever I had been holding back, suppressing and was disconnected from to come to the surface, reconnect with it and heal. And that is what simply happened. It was intense, joyful, sad, scary, insightful and connecting, but most of all a beautiful experience where I came away lighter, feeling more grounded and connected to the natural world, to my heart, to my King and to my other archetypes. But I was also able to find and start healing my Inner Child. He had been the centre of my life way longer than needed! Now I was able to start bringing  in my sovereignty. This has started to bring me so much more energy, greater grounding and most of all clarity into my life. I can see who I am as a person in my future – and, most importantly, the part I will play in this world. So In short if you are wondering if this is for you and you are ready, sign up! Oh – and you will make some amazing friends, that’s for sure. – Ben H.

I had a fantastic weekend with Rod and team. Together they’ve got many decades of experience in men’s work and healing, and it’s very much felt. I felt very supported, and I was pleased to get “stuck in” with a piece of shadow work around my childhood, and to witness and support men doing their work. Rod is a lovely guy, as I said to him I remember in one conversation, I appreciate his combination of being serious when he needs to be (about supporting men to thrive and healing the shadows holding them back), and he also has a wonderful irreverence and good sense of humour, which for me creates a field of safety and lightness to what can be quite intense work! Another elder on the team, Steve, I found inspirational, he supported me in my healing work and held a powerful sweat lodge on the last day – thank you. I came out feeling grounded, nourished from the good company of men and friendships made on the weekend, and with more energy, vitality, inspiration, and focus for what I want to create more of in my life. – Laurence.

Clear, concise and inclusive would be one way of describing my experience at Rod’s King Archetype weekend, another would be deep, resonant and fulfilling. Rod and the team model everything they deliver which supports participants every step of the way. On a personal level I was given the opportunity to process a hugely emotive and difficult lifelong issue. I was held with professionalism and care. To be witnessed by my fellow men during the process was invaluable. This has given me the space and knowledge and vision to heal. The structure of the weekend was in keeping with maintaining maximum submersion within the field of growth and healing.  Can’t recommend enough for men that want to find some movement with their own issues and want to be part of a more dynamic future for men. I wouldn’t hesitate to book another of Rod’s workshops. – Chris G

I attended an Inner King weekend workshop with Rod and his highly experienced team of facilitators near Glastonbury, Somerset in Jan/Feb ’26. It was another powerful experience in beautiful surroundings, offering a rare opportunity to go beyond simply reading about shadow work and actually live it. Through thoughtful check-ins, archetype process work and the opportunity to step into personal deep shadow work, the weekend created a grounded yet profound space for growth. Rod and his team’s depth of experience was evident in the carefully curated exercises and in the way they collectively held the circle — welcoming men wherever they were on their journey. If you’re seeking greater connection with yourself and with other men walking a similar path, I highly recommend this weekend.Ross, London.

I attended the menswork retreat at Earth Spirit Centre, near Glastonbury in January of this year and it was a deeply meaningful experience. The retreat explored the King archetype in a way that felt powerful and practical- not as an abstract idea but something that I can consciously embody in everyday life through integrity, boundaries and service. What stood out most was the sense of connection and sharing space with other men on a similar journey to myself. The container of that space created a level of honesty, support and mutual respect that was genuinely nourishing and a rarity in this day and age! The facilitators held the space and processes with skill, care and clarity, allowing depth while being safely held, which encouraged real reflection and sharing. I would highly recommend this type of mens work, I have a clearer understanding of how I show up in the world as a man and there is a strong sense of brotherhood that continues beyond the retreat itself. – Keith – Grey Owl

Testimonials from pre – 2026 workshops

I knew when I saw the email from Rod about this residential workshop that this was something I needed to attend. Over the course of the weekend the facilitators took us on a journey exploring the King, Warrior, Magician and Lover archetypes, helping us to find the King within. There were group processes to help us step in to our Sovereign energy and individual process work to help us heal the shadows which were stopping us fully accessing our true sovereignty and being the King in our Kingdom in all areas of our lives. Overcoming these shadows is about being authentic, having integrity and being principled, demonstrating what a compassionate, responsible, and powerful man looks like… and also being able to bless others and ask for and receive help when required. This was a great weekend and very beneficial, and it certainly shifted something inside of me! After the weekend I felt more centred and balanced, and better connected to my internal power. And the weekend has given me ideas to take forward into my life, such as communicating with my King, Warrior, Magician and Lover. – Michael, Reading

It’s two days out from the “Finding The King Within” workshop and trying to aptly describe the experience is hard. I look back at myself before the weekend and I look into my own eyes today and even though the physical form, the “human shell”, is the same, the man looking back at me is different. I wonder how could such a change have taken place in such a short time? When I found this workshop, through a friend’s recommendation, not knowing much on Archetypes, only what I had briefly read, I was drawn to do it. The universe presents to you exactly what you need at exactly the right time – and this workshop was just so! The facilitators are experts at holding the space to carry out this kind of work. Their attention to each man on the workshop is unparalleled, they always seemed to have time to stop and chat between sessions if needed. James – London

I arrived with no connection to my King, and my “Kingdom” was in chaos. Hopefully you note I used the past tense there, because at the end of the weekend I left the workshop with a strong sense of my Sovereignty. Every process/exercise was so well explained and guided that I was never left wondering what I was supposed to be doing. I felt so cared for and supported during each process, which allowed me to feel safe to go deep into my own personal work and connect to my King. This has given me the confidence to believe in myself, to know that I have everything I need right now within me, and that my King can help guide me from now on. – Anon

I feel more in tune with who I am and who I want to be, and how to go about merging these two together. I came away having experienced some of the most profound moments in my life. I began to make peace with certain aspects of myself that I had suppressed my whole life, all the time being “held” by men of such honour. It was a privilege to share this experience with 17 other men. I left having witnessed 13 men become Kings, guided by Kings, and having become a King. – Stephan, Bristol

Personal comments from the staff:

Rod Boothroyd
I’ve led many weekend retreats for men over the last twenty years so I bring a wealth of experience to what has become my mission: to create a world of love and connection by facilitating healing circles in which men and women can bring their shadow into the light and so grow into emotional maturity.
This workshop marks a return to group facilitation for me, after some years of one-to-one work and training men and women in the art of shadow work facilitation with my colleague Marianne Hill. I’m delighted to offer this workshop with my experienced colleagues Richard and Lee.

I have been involved in men’s work and shadow work for 9 years now. I am a qualified Shadow Work practitioner and see individual clients and groups. Finding and empowering my King has been the key to my journey from a time of deep despair to the happy and fulfilled life I have now. Knowing the journey still continues, I want to do what I can to bring the healing power of this work to all who want it.

With over a decade in men’s work and personal development, I draw on my own journey of healing after addiction. Alongside running men’s circles, retreats, and off-grid embodiment adventures, my day-to-day work is in prisons and the criminal justice system, supporting marginalised men who need this work most. I’m dedicated to equality, freedom, and building spaces where men can heal, grow, and reconnect with their true selves.

I am very familiar with men’s work, Shadow Work and the King, Warrior, Lover and Magician Archetypes. I completed a ‘six-month journey’ in Shadow Work with Rod in 2018/2019 and I am currently 5 months in to another ‘six-month journey’ in Shadow Work with Rod’s colleague, Marianne Hill. I completed a ManKind Project UK & Ireland (MKP) NWTA weekend in February 2018 and have staffed once since then. I have attended two different MKP iGroups (Bath & South Hants) and have assisted Rod and Marianne on many workshops over several years.

Now 68, I retired from full-time employment (in sustainable construction research management) in 2017. I live in Chapmanslade (a little village just outside Frome) in Wiltshire, with my second wife, Julie, who I married in 2014. Julie and I have no children of our own but I have three children from a previous marriage (all of whom are now grown up, with children of their own). I am a writer and have been Chair of the Frome Writers’ Collective (FWC).

I am extremely interested and involved in many alternative healing modalities, including Shadow Work, 7 Words, Astrology, Meditation, Family Constellations and Identity Oriented Psychotrauma Theory (IOPT). I love being part of a group and assisting and supporting others on their healing journeys.

I have been working with men for many years, both as a yoga teacher and a facilitator of men’s talking groups. With nine years of teaching experience, I have specialized in leading yoga in men’s spaces at festivals. After being inspired by a men’s mental health group in Bristol, I founded a Talk Club in my hometown of Chippenham.

My extensive personal development and training includes Tantra, Conscious Communications, and a six-month shadow course with Rod and Marianne Hill. My work is also rooted in my long-standing commitment to the ManKind Project, where I have staffed numerous initiation weekends, been part of the Elder Chairman’s support group, and completed the Conscious Elder Journey.

Most of my working life was as an engineer, and I travelled the world extensively in this role.  I trained as a therapeutic counsellor and followed a spiritual path based on Native American shamanism, so I bring a broad life experience.

I was first introduced to the Lover, Warrior, Magician, King archetypes when undertaking the MKP “New Warrior Training Adventure” back in 2002: they gelled well with my understanding of the Medicine Wheel.  This was my introduction to men’s work.  I’ve subsequently staffed the MKP weekend 33 times, primarily focused on the ritualistic and ceremonial aspects of the training.

Now, aged 72, I still work two part-time jobs. One of them is as a ride operator at a major theme park.  I have come to love the shrill shrieks of joyous fear around the park, a place where I can be granddad all day!

My sovereign service to this lifetime seems to be to facilitate sweat lodge ceremonies. And because of issues of cultural appropriation, I have turned away from the Native American ceremonial form in favour of the traditional spiritual ways of our own lands.
